The Journal of Popular Film and Television was founded in 1971 at the Popular Culture Center at Bowling Green State University. Since 1980, it has published by Heldref, a subsidiary of the non-profit Helen Dwight Reid Educational Foundation, which produces 41 publications with a total circulation of well over 100,000. Heldref is authorized to publish learned and professional journals, to promote them, and to make other educational organizations aware of them. Heldref achieves this purpose with the cooperation of the hundreds of scholars who contribute their time and expertise as editors and advisors.
